Since the early 90s the trend for brighter and better aligned teeth has gained pace, with big names from across the spectrum of celebrity unveiling vastly improved brand new smiles. Problems such as gaps between the teeth are fixed with tooth veneers and staining and yellowing made a thing of the past with a number of different tooth whitening techniques such as tooth bleaching and laser whitening. Braver big names have even been seen sporting orthodontic braces to straighten their smiles ready for those red carpet moments.

Many stars started their life in the public eye with teeth that were less than perfect, but seeing themselves in the spotlight seems to have sent them straight to the cosmetic dentist chair. Some notable cases of stars whose teeth are rumoured to have been fixed include:
- Tom Cruise. Katie Holmes’s husband famously sported a crooked grin in the early days of his career, but donned clear braces to correct the problem leaving him with a super Hollywood smile.
- Miley Cyrus. The teeny bopper took to our screens with teeth that were a little wonky, but as she emerged as a more sophisticated songstress her smile was brightened by what appear to be porcelain veneers.
- Katie Price. The glamour model and businesswoman also known as Jordan posed with a pursed pout for a reason in early pictures. When she joined the A List she had a mouth makeover with dental veneers to give her a straight white smile.
- 50 Cent. The rapper sported a small gap between his front teeth in his early career, which now seems to have been fixed with the help of cosmetic dentistry.
- Gwen Stefani. Style icon Gwen became the heroine of teenagers across the globe when she sported a full on metal-mouth brace to correct wonky teeth.
- Katherine Heigl. Grey's Anatomy Actress Heigl confirmed she wore an Invisalign retainer to straighten her teeth in advance of her wedding.
- Noel Gallagher. The Oasis star has always been a little rough around the edges, but his Mancunian mouth was turned Hollywood with the help of tooth veneers.
- Celine Dion. This Diva was cruelly christened "Canine Dion" by one magazine after pictures of her pointy teeth appeared, since then her smile seems to have been evened out and whitened.

Perfect teeth don't come cheap, with comedian Chris Rock rumoured to have paid around $150,000 for a total mouth makeover. However, the cost of dental veneers can be reduced by shopping around or travelling abroad for treatment, while home tooth whitening kits offer a budget route to a brighter smile.
